Emmaus House The Emmaus House is a family emergency shelter located on 150 Howe St in Haverhill MA. Our church donates food, toiletries, clothing, and prepares one supper a month there for the residents. Maris Center (Link House) This is both a half and a three-quarter way house for women. The UMW sends them health and beauty aids, and the church as a whole sends Christmas presents for the children of the residents. Hattie B. Cooper Center We collect soup labels that they redeem for educational supplies. Heifer Project The Congregation donates "pennies" every week in honor of birthdays and anniversaries. This money is saved up so that instead of sending milk, we send a cow or a pig to a family in need. This year's donation will be sent to the needy people of Washington County in Maine. Mitch's Place (also run by Emmaus House) is a year-round emergency overnight shelter. We send donations in order to maintain a bed for folks from Merrimac. Community Action Fund This organization is in Amesbury. For over 20 years our church has held twice annual food drives and contributes towards the homeless aid fund. The Pettengill House is the local point of contact for many social services in Salisbury. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is the Ecumenical Council's Emergency Fund to help individuals or families with a specific need. Hat & Mitten Tree Our church provides knitted and purchased hats, mittens, and scarves to Emmaus House, Maris Center, local schools, and other children in need. Christmas Families Every year our church adopts three or so families from the local school system. The children are given presents from their wish-list along with warm clothes and toiletries. The parent(s) also receive a gift. Alcoholics Anonymous Our church truly believes in helping those that are trying to help themselves. This group meets every week in our downstairs hall and we are happy that they are there. Boy Scouts of America We are proud to sponsor Troop 41. This troop is very active, which not only keeps the boys interested first in Scouting, but also progressing through the ranks. They prove time and again that a boy joining this group can set his eyes on becoming an Eagle Scout, and the troop's leadership will be there to guide him every step of the way. Girl Scouts of America We also enjoy hosting Girl Scouting in our church. Girl Scouting gives today's girl the opportunity to have fun, explore, and grow in a safe all-girl environment. Girls plan under the guidance of trained leadership to share interests, enjoy the out of doors, give community service, develop important life skills, explore careers, and encourages leadership development.
